Date Accuracy Disclaimer

Last updated: October 29, 2026

The Hijri dates on hijriGO are calculated, for guidance and planning. They are not an official announcement from any authority.

Why can a Hijri date differ?

  • Moon sighting: in many countries, Morocco among them, a month begins when the new crescent is sighted after sunset, and it may be visible in one country but not in another.
  • Astronomical calculation in advance: calendars such as Umm al-Qura set the start of months by a rule worked out ahead of time, so they can precede or match an announcement based on sighting.
  • Different countries: each country has its own authority and method, so the adopted date can differ from one country to another by a day or even two.

The calendar this site uses

We use the Umm al-Qura calendar through the calendar support built into your browser (Intl, islamic-umalqura). The supported range is 1318 to 1500 AH (about 1900–2076 CE). The date on the site changes at midnight on your device's clock, whereas the Hijri day begins at sunset. Details: method and data source.

What we do to reduce confusion

  • Every event shows its status: calculated, expected, officially announced or traditional date. An event is only labelled “officially announced” after a documented announcement has been checked and its source shown; none is entered on the site at the moment.
  • The “Adjust the day” option (±1 day) lets you match your country's announcement, and it is stored in your browser only.

When to rely on the official authority

For fasting, the Eids and anything involving worship, an official procedure or a document, follow the announcement of the competent authority in your country (in Morocco, for example, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs). The site is not official proof of a date or of the start of a month.

The Moon

The Moon phase and illumination shown are approximate and can be off by several hours.
