About hijriGO
hijriGO is a free Hijri date website in Arabic, French and English. Find today's Hijri date, convert between Hijri and Gregorian, browse the calendar, follow Islamic events and add your own reminders to your phone.
Why the site exists
Many pages show a Hijri date without saying how it was worked out or when it may differ from the announcement in your country. hijriGO aims to make the Hijri date easy to find, convert and follow, and to state the method and its limits every time instead of presenting the result as beyond question.
What the site offers
- Today's date in Hijri and Gregorian on the home page, with an approximate Moon phase and a quick search for common questions.
- A date converter between Hijri and Gregorian in both directions, which checks that the day exists.
- The monthly and yearly calendar with the matching Gregorian date for every day.
- Islamic events, “when is…” pages and countdowns to Ramadan, the two Eids and the Islamic New Year, plus the White Days.
- An age calculator, your birthday in Hijri and the difference between two dates in both calendars.
- My events and reminders: an ICS file for your yearly Hijri occasions that you add to your phone's calendar.
- The Qibla direction and greeting cards.
- Articles on Umm al-Qura, moon sighting, the Hijri months and the difference between the two calendars, with figures computed by the site's own engine.
How the date is calculated, and its limits
The site uses the Umm al-Qura calendar only. It is a calculated calendar used in Saudi Arabia, built on published rules rather than on sighting the crescent each month. The tools cover 1318 to 1500 AH (about 1900 to 2076 CE).
A month may therefore start one day away from the date shown here, since many countries, Morocco among them, rely on moon sighting with an official announcement. We do not present the calculation as an official announcement and do not claim it matches the announcements of every country. Dates are labelled “calculated”, “expected” or “officially announced”, and no date on the site is currently entered as officially announced. You can adjust the day by plus or minus one; that choice is kept in your browser only. Details: how we calculate and the date accuracy disclaimer.
How it helps in practice
- You need the date of a document or an occasion: convert it, then open the monthly calendar to see the day in context.
- You are planning for Ramadan or Eid: open the countdown page and compare the calculated date with your country's official announcement.
- You do not want to forget a Hijri birthday or anniversary: create an ICS file and add it to your phone's calendar, so the reminders come from your own app, not from the site.
Privacy and independence
There is no account or registration, and the dates you enter are processed in your browser and are not sent to a server. The site sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics tool at present; your location is requested only if you press the locate button on the Qibla page. The site is free and shows no ads at present. If we switch them on to cover running costs, we will update the privacy policy first.
